Qatar- Over 131 million gallons of rainwater removed

DOHA: The Rainfall Emergency Committee at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has removed over 131 million gallons of rainwater from low-laying areas.

Meanwhile, according to Qatar Meteorology Department, chance of light rain to continue today during noon time mainly along the eastern coast.

'Rainfall emergency teams have removed a total of 131,174,768 gallons of rainwater since Thursday till Monday evening carrying in 26,442 tankers' load, said Safar Mubarak Al Shafi, Head of the Rainfall Emergency Committee at the Ministry in a statement issued yesterday.

He said that work were in full swing round-the-clock to clear water-logging across the municipalities. 'The control rooms received 6,052 calls requesting to remove rainwater from different localities, said Al Shafi adding that the calls were being responded as soon as possible. He said that 545 people were deployed and 308 water tankers were engaged in service to clear water-logging across the country.

Separately, Ashghal announced yesterday that the Authority was assisting the rainfall committee in clearing water logging. 'No closures caused by rainwater detected on main roads in Doha and works are underway to remove rainwater from local streets, the Public Works Authority tweeted yesterday.

'Ashghal continues water clearing operations in different areas of the country in coordination with Rainfall Emergency Committee, said the Authority in another tweet.

'According to latest updates from Qatar's numerical weather prediction model, chance of mostly light rain continues today during noon time mainly along the eastern coast, Qatar Meteorology Department, tweeted yesterday.
