Voting in the Wolesi Jirga elections kicked off on October 20 nation-wide apart from southern Ghazni and Kandahar provinces. Polling in some polling stations was resumed on Sunday after delays on the first day.

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday acknowledged technical problems plagued the voting process and announced that polling stations which remained closed on Saturday would be open on Sunday for voters.

IEC chief Abdul Baday Sayyad told at a press conference here that four million people polled votes at 76 polling centers, with men making 67 percent of them and womeninfo-icon

He said people cast votes at 4576 polling stations on Saturday and Sunday and 45 percent illegible people took part in the Wolesi Jirga elections, which showed high participation compared to the last election.

He said the Wolesi Jirga election results would be announced by the IEC and termed results on social media as baseless.
