EU grants Jordan USD 57.5 mln to help with judicial system


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- The European Union (EU) signed on Sunday a grant agreement to programs that will support rule of law in Jordan, totaling USD 57.7 million.
According to Jordan news agency (Petra), Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mary Kawar signed with the Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, a 50 million euro grant agreement for "Support to Rule of Law Program in Jordan." The grant aims to support the Rule of Law Program to enhance the independence and accountability of the judicial power, support the improvement of case flow management, effectiveness and information efficiency in the criminal justice chain and improve the management and public service delivery in the Justice Sector.
Kawar said the agreement represents a new milestone in cooperation relations between the two sides.
She also thanked the EU for its genuine partnership and strong commitment to support the kingdom, noting efforts of the EU ambassador to "advance the EU-Jordan strategic partnership in support of Jordan's long-term economic development, resilience and stability, particularly in light of the regional circumstances and continued spillover on Jordan for more for seven years".
