Oman- Phase 2 of Khazzan gas project 33% completed

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The work at the second phase of the giant Khazzan gas field project in Oman's Block 61 is progressing well and around 33 per cent of the second phase, also known as Ghazeer, has been completed, according to Yousef bin Mohammed al Ojaili, president of BP Oman.

In a statement to Oman News Agency, Ojaili said the delivery of first gas from Ghazeer gas field is expected by early 2021. He pointed out that a number of wells were drilled at the second phase and the work is underway to construct the roads leading to the wells. Work is also underway to build a third gas processing train and another train for the processing of oil condensates at the same site of the first phase and a new gas export line.

'As per the agreement between Oman's government and BP, the production from first phase now stands at about 28mn cubic meters of gas per day and 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil condensates. The first phase included drilling of 200 wells that are connected to the central processing facility, which includes two identical gas processing trains. The produced gas is pumped at the government pipelines network managed by PDO and Oman Gas Co,' Ojaili said.

He said that total lifetime capital expenditure for Khazzan and Ghazeer gas fields is estimated at US$16bn and about 300 wells will be drilled through the estimated operational age for the two phases. Ojaili added that total production will increase to 1.5bn cubic feet per day of gas and 50,000bpd of oil condensates upon completion of the second phase.

He said the second phase in Block 61 is progressing easily compared to the first phase due to experience and knowledge obtained during the implementation of the first phase and introduction of BP's new technologies with relation to hydraulic fracturing to facilitate production and reduce operational costs.
