Afghanistan: 30 Taliban militants die in airstrikes


(MENAFN) A military spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai declared that an average of 30 militants have died as fighting jet hit a Taliban meeting in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the northern Baghlan province.

Rezai added: "Acting upon intelligence report, the fighting aircraft conducted a series of sorties against a gathering of Taliban rebels in Baghlan-e-Markazi district at around noon, killing 30 rebels on the spot."

The official didn't give any further information.

Taliban militants conducted a string of attacks in areas of Baghlan province including capital Pul-e-Khumri on Saturday to prevent the voting process of Afghanistan's parliamentary elections.
