DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together for supporting diabetic patients in Qatar.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Abdulla Al Hamaq, Executive Director of QDA, and Youssef Abdullah Al Sada, Executive Director of QRCS, said a release.
Speaking at the singing ceremony, Al Sada has commended his organisation's positive attitude in mutual coordination to enhance medical services for the diabetic, inspired by the government's strategy of promoting public health, and working towards the human development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
'This agreement will embody QRCS's interest in partnership with other government bodies and NGOs, said Al Sada. 'Our top priority locally is medical and health services, through a wide range of activities, including but not limited to the Patient Assistance Fund, Workers' Health Centers, Medical Commission Units, 50 ambulance vehicles, and medical coverage of public and sports events.
He added, 'Examples of other activities are on-site medical services, surface water rescue at the Sealine, first aid sections at malls, community health education campaigns, participations at medical conferences and exhibitions, first aid courses for school students, and accreditation for medical professionals.
Dr Al Hamaq emphasised the importance of this agreement with QRCS, as a further step in bilateral strategic relations and joint efforts in the best interest of low-income diabetic patients.
He valued QRCS's leading role in different fields of humanitarian, relief, and volunteering work. 'Notably, this agreement precedes World Diabetes Day, the primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes mellitus, said Dr Al Hamaq adding that this year's theme is ‘The Family and Diabetes'.
The two-year agreement will providejoint work to offer customised services that help create a healthy, convenient, and safe environment for diabetic patients. Based on social case studies to verify their eligibility, the poor patients will be granted coverage of the costs of their treatment. They will also receive health care and education.
Under the agreement, QRCS and QDA will co-organize workshops and courses to enhance the proficiency of their professionals, with a view to achieving the goals of the program.
