Arab League condemns US decision to merge embassy, consulate in Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- The Arab League condemned on Saturday the United States' recent decision to merge its embassy and consulate general in Jerusalem into one diplomatic mission.
The decision is irresponsible and part of plans aimed to eliminate the Palestinian cause, Arab League undersecretary for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Saeed Abu-Ali said in a press statement.
Abu-Ali described the US step as a "flagrant violation of international laws, resolutions, and charters." Washington is too biased towards the Israeli occupation and its "racial" schemes, he said, adding the US decision undermines any opportunity for just peace and enforcing the two-state solution.
Arab states, alongside the international community, will continue to denounce and reject such unilateral isolated policies by the US government, he affirmed.
They will also continue to support the constants of the Palestinian rights until the Palestinians regain their national rights by ending the occupation and establishing their independent state with Eastern Jerusalem as its capital, said Abu-Ali. (end) mfm.ma
