Kuwaiti diplomat proposes to FAO cmte global event to commemorate dates


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ROME, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ambassador to Rome Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Sabah discussed late Friday with a committee from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) the possibility of assigning a global celebration to commemorate dates.
This Kuwaiti proposal came during the meeting of FAO's Committee on World Food Security (CFS).
The meeting is part of the FAO's contributions to the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
During the event -- chaired by CFS head and Dominican Republic Ambassador to FAO Ambassador Mario Arvelo and Kuwaiti Permanent Representative at the organization Yousef Al-Juhail -- Ambassador Al-Khaled said that the Kuwaiti leadership and people were keen on positively contributing to the SDGs.
As part of the contribution, it is important to commemorate a day for the celebration of dates as an important agricultural resource affirmed, the Kuwaiti diplomat.
On his part, CFS head Ambassador Arvelo commended Kuwait's numerous contributions to FAO and the UN, stressing that the GCC state played an integral part on boosting efforts within the global food security domain.
The participants of the meeting received Ambassador Al-Khaled's proposal positively.
FAO is celebrating for a week the World Food Day, an event commemorating the establishment of the organization on October 16, 1945.
The organization's mission focus on eradicating hunger affecting some 820 million people around the globe and malnutrition, which is plaguing some 1.9 billion individuals worldwide. (end) mn.gta
