Official statistics indicate that Vietnamese students are the fastest growing group in South Korean universities. According to the National Institute for International Education – a subsidiary of the Korean Ministry of Education – there were 15,000 students from Vietnam in 2017, three times the number in 2015, VN Express reported.
Universities and graduate schools in South Korea recorded 142,205 international students this April, a 14.8% jump from 2017. With 68,256 students, China remains at the top stop with the most students in South Korea, making up 48.2% of all foreign students in the country.

Vietnam followed suit with 27,061, accounting for 19% of all foreign students. Yonhap reported that Vietnam is expected to overtake China by 2020.
Vietnam's education minister Phung Xuan Nha said Vietnamese people spend almost US$3-4 billion yearly sending their children to study abroad.
Apart from Asian countries, Vietnamese students are also increasing in the United States. In the academic year of 2016-17, Vietnam ranked sixth with students studying in the USA, Saigon Giai Phong Online reported.
