(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) VIENNA, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- Tunisian Secretary of State for Migration and Tunisian Abroad, Adel Jarboui on Friday re-affirmed his country's drastic refusal to host camps for illegal migrants.
This came during a press conference following a symposium held by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in Vienna on illegal migration.
Tunisia re-emphasizes its refusal to set up centers for migrants on its lands, and this decision is in line with the best interest of the country, said Al-Jarboui.
He added that almost one million Libyans were forced to migrate to Tunisia from the war there, in addition to an incident of a rescue of a stranded boat carrying migrants on the shores of Tunisia which was left unattended for more than 14 days due to EU country's refusal to accept them.
During the press conference, the General Director of the ICMPD and previously the Austrian Foreign Affairs Minister Michael Spindelegger praised cooperation with Tunisia and mentioned some projects that have been developed by the center in the field of migration in North Africa.
He unveiled the ICMPD's had assigned no less than EUR 55 million to support the EU project to protect the external borders and to train and equip the staff members. (end) amq.aq
