Kuwait- Pompeo reaffirms US relationship with Panamanian Pres.


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela at the Presidential Palace in Panama City on Friday to reaffirm the "longstanding" US-Panama partnership on bilateral regional and economic issues.
"Secretary Pompeo expressed appreciation for Panama's leadership on important regional security matters including counter-narcotics, illegal immigration, and the Government of Panama's vocal advocacy for the restoration of democracy in Venezuela and Nicaragua," said a State Department release.
Pompeo also "stressed the importance of transparency and anti-corruption efforts in Panama," it said.
Vice President and Foreign Minister Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado was also present in the meeting. (end) ak.rk
