18 Oct 2018

World number one, Simona Halep has withdrawn from next week's WTA Finals.

A lower back injury is forcing her to miss out on the year-ending mega spectacle.

Halep, who won the French Open this year, is sitting atop the women's rankings comfortably.

Women's world number 10 Kiki Bertens takes Halep's place in the coveted event.

Here's more on the same.

Halep hasn't practised in the last four weeks.

The Romanian ace sustained a herniated disc while being involved in a training session before last month's Wuhan Open.

Halep, who has been a regular at the WTA Finals stated that, "It's always difficult to withdraw from a big tournament. So it was a tough decision but it's better for my health."
