DOHA: To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Commercial Bank has organized an awareness day in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society by launching a range of awareness-raising activities yesterday for its employees and members of the public.
Commercial Bank offered its guests the opportunity to get their vital signs checked by qualified nurses and receive a general consultation from a medical doctor. They were also invited to hear inspirational talks from a breast cancer survivor and a blood cancer survivor, as well as attend a workshop run by Dr. Hadi Abu Rasheed, Head of Professional Development and Scientific Research Department at Qatar Cancer Society (QCS).
Activities that focused on fitness and lifestyle were also offered. Because studies have shown that women who exercise more are less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer, an office workout was organised at Commercial Bank's very own on-site gym for employees, CB House of Fitness, followed by a presentation on why ‘Every Movement Counts'.
According to National Center for Cancer Care & Research, in Qatar the incidence of breast cancer is 40% higher than that of other types of cancer. This makes it one of the most common cancers among women in Qatar.
Hussein Ali Al Abdulla, Chief Marketing Officer at Commercial Bank, said: 'Commercial Bank was glad to play its part in helping raise awareness of breast cancer in Qatar. Prevention and early detection are the most powerful ways to beat breast cancer, which is why the activities we organised today focused on overall health.
'At Commercial Bank, our people are our greatest asset, and we are committed to investing in their wellbeing through initiatives like Breast Cancer Awareness Month and through employee services like our new on-site gym CB House of Fitness. We like to involve employees' friends and families and members of the public in these initiatives as much as we can.
Dr. Hadi Abu Rasheed, Head of Professional Development and Scientific Research Department at QCS, said: 'This event comes within our Life is Pink campaign, which Qatar Cancer Society launched during the month of October to raise awareness about breast cancer, emphasize the importance of periodic examination for early detection, and promote a healthylife style to prevent it.
