Trend:

The US can lift some sanctions from Turkey, as the Turkish authorities released the American pastor Andrew Brunson and he returned to the US, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, RIA Novosti reported.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that at the talks held in Ankara with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo they agreed that it was necessary to lift the sanctions imposed by Washington against Ankara.

"We will soon make a decision on this issue, but some of the imposed sanctions were directly related to pastor Brunson, and it is logical now to remove them," Associated Press quoted Pompeo as saying.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump promised to impose sanctions against Turkey for detaining American pastor Andrew Brunson, who was accused of complicity with the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016.
