(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The national team of Ukraine heads to Sydney to take part in the Invictus Games 2018.

"Ukraine's Invictus Games team flew to Sydney from the Kyiv International Airport at night to participate in the international competitions," the press service of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reports.

Fifteen service members (14 men and 1 woman), including seven officers of the Interior Ministry, will represent Ukraine at the Invictus Games 2018.

"The competitions in Sydney will become the second Invictus Games, which Ukraine takes part in. Last year, 15 Ukrainian veterans competed in Toronto and won 14 medals in six disciplines, including eight gold medals," the statement reads.

The athletes from 18 countries will take part in the Invictus Games 2018 in Sydney on October 20-27.

The Invictus Games is the only international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women, created by Britain's Prince Harry, in which former armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing. The Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick servicepersons.
