Phytosanitary inspectors of the Food Safety Agency in Azerbaijan revealed a quarantine pest in one of the batches of 17.2 tons of kiwi imported to Azerbaijan from Iran, the Agency said in a message on Oct. 17.
According to the preliminary version, this is pseudaulacaspis pentagona (commonly referred to as armored scale insects). Relevant samples were sent for research to the Agency's laboratory.
The laboratory test found that part of the kiwi was infected. The infected fruits were later destroyed.
