Russia, Egypt to sign partnership treaty Wed.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Oct 16 (KUNA) -- Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday his country and Egypt are scheduled to sign a significant strategic partnership treaty on Wednesday, official media reported.
The treaty would pave the way for a new stage in the two countries' relationship, Medvedev said during his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in Moscow, according to Interfax News.
The Russian-Egyptian ties are "distinctive", the Russian Premier described, adding Cairo is Moscow's pivotal partner in the Middle East and Africa.
He stressed the importance of bolstering the volume of trade between the two countries, especially since it has recently recorded a notable increase, said Medvedev.
There are currently major projects between the two countries, he noted, expressing his hope that Al-Sisi's visit to Russia contributes to bolstering their bilateral ties.
For his part, the Egyptian President lauded his country's relationship with Moscow and said it has dynamically improved since their diplomatic relationship was established 70 years ago.
"The Egyptians fondly remember Russia's constant support to their country," Al-Sisi said, pointing out Moscow's assistance in implementing a number of industrial projects in Egypt back in the 1950s and 1960s.
He also expressed his conviction in the importance of keeping the memories of such aid and support alive for generations to follow, recalling Russia's memorable and supportive stand by Egypt during the country's difficult circumstances in 2014.
Meanwhile, informal talks between Putin and Al-Sisi will start later this evening in the Russian coastal Black Sea resort Sochi, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated to the press.
The two leaders would discuss a number of subjects related to bilateral ties, as well as regional and international issues during a dinner at one of Sochi's restaurants, Peskov said, adding they will hold their official talks tomorrow. (end) as.ma
