Iran's Chamber of Commerce: Gov't doesn't pay attention to agriculture

(MENAFN- AzerNews) By Trend

Iran's agricultural sector has been under pressure for the last ten years, Chairman of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholamhossein Shafei said during the official breakfast with Mahmoud Hojjati, Iran's Minister of Agriculture, Mehr news agency reported.

Although the minister of agriculture has put forward some requirements to the Currency and Credit Council of Iran, the Iranian government does not pay enough attention to agricultural sector, Shafei noted.

Shafei said the volume of banking services in the agricultural sector has continuously decreased during 2006-2016.

The decrease of volume of these services is as follows: 14.8 percent in 2006, 10.4 percent in 2013, and 8.8 percent in 2016, the chairman added.

Shafei noted the water supply problem as one of the country's topical problems: this problem exerts negative influence on agriculture, whereas, the agricultural sector is one of the pillars of the national economy.

The major part of Iran's non-oil exports falls to the share of agricultural products, Shafei continued.

Just for this reason, economic activists suffer many blows from ill-judged hastily-taken decisions, the chairman concluded.
