Iraq's Basra protesters murder 'political'

(MENAFN) The killing of nine protesters in September in Basra, a southern city in Iraq, had a "political" motive.

The news was unveiled in investigation findings of a government commission including representatives from several Iraqi security and intelligence agencies.

The commission found that the murder of those protesters has been a result of "saboteurs" working for specific Iraqi political parties.

The commission issued a statement on Tuesday slamming the "failure on the part of police to protect state institutions."

The commission also condemned the "slow reaction [to the crisis] by the [army's] Basra Operations Command."
