EU prolongs Iraq advisory mission duration


(MENAFN) The European Union (EU) reached a decision to prolong the period of its Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Iraq by 2020.

The decision was made on Monday during a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.

The Foreign Affairs Council agreed for its advisory mission in Iraq to end on April 17, 2020.

The advisory mission was created in 2017 in order to provide help for Iraqi officials in issues related to civilians.

The EU council further reached a resolution on a budget of a size of 64.8 million euro, from October 18 this year and expiring April 17, 2020.

The council further restructured the mission's mandate so as to mirror experiences gains throughout last year as well as its strategic review.
