Indian activist dies in hunger strike against Ganges pollution


(MENAFN) Reuters declared that an Indian activist, aged 86, has died of a hunger strike to demonstrate pollution in the Ganges River.

G.D. Agarwal has spent 15 weeks without food starting of June 22.

G.D. Agarwal called for a law securing the Ganges"India's largest waterway, sacred to Hindus, which is filled with domestic and industrial trash, in addition to the stoppage of construction of hydroelectrical projects.

Another activist confirmed that Agarwal's death "has shut one of the leading voices of criticism of the government on the Ganga pollution."
