Afghanistan- Khalilzad seeks Qatar's role in Afghan peace quest -



(MENAFN - Afghanistan Times) AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: In his visit to Doha, the capital city of Qatar, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan's Reconciliation, Zalamy Khalilzad on Friday held meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in which both sides shed light over important issues related to Afghanistan. The two sides discussed ways of achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan and Qatar's positive role in peace process, the Peninsula Qatar reported. Before to visit Qatar, Khalilzad started his peace mission by visiting Afghanistan and its complicated neighbor—Pakistan to convince Islamabad to stand honestly with Afghan government in its efforts for reconciliation with the Taliban group. During his visit in Kabul, he met with President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah, as well as representatives of a variety of political groups, key civil society organizations including the High Peace Council, and Afghan media. In his meetings, Khalilzad asked for cooperation from all sides to bring an end to the conflict and called on the parties to facilitate dialogue by forming inclusive negotiating teams. Recalling the sacrifices of the Afghan people over many years of war, Khalilzad said: 'We, in cooperation with the Afghan people and government, want to make a peaceful Afghanistan where all Afghans see themselves included.'
