UAE- RAK Crown Prince honours 79 winners of Educational Excellence Award

RAS AL KHAIMAH, 10th October, 2018 (WAM) -- Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras al-Khaimah, today attended the honouring ceremony of the 79 winners of the 14th Ras al-Khaimah Educational Excellence Award, which was held in the theatre of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development Ministry Centre.

The ceremony was attended by Fawzia Ghareeb, Assisting Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for the Schools Operations Sector, as well as several educational leaders and heads of federal and local authorities.

In the category of "Excellent Educational Institution," the Al Baryrat Elementary Education School for Boys and the Noura bint Sultan Secondary School for Girls were the best two schools in adopting the "Educational Excellence Model" while the Al Wadi Elementary School for Girls was honoured as the best school for non-summer activities.

Al Ghadeer Nursery and the Rafak Elementary School for Girls shared the first place as having the happiest school environment, and the Al Rouaya Elementary and Secondary Education School won in the category of "Excellent Educational Initiative."

In the category of "Community Excellence," the Al Mansour Elementary School for Girls won the best school that interacts with the Year of Zayed while the Parents Council of Muhra bint Ahmed Elementary School for Girls won the first place.

The four institutions honoured in the category of "Excellent Institution in Supporting Education," which contributed a total of AED80 million over the five past years, are the Sheikh Saud Educational Charity Foundation, which provides comprehensive support to 1,700 students; the Ras al-Khaimah Academy for Talents and the Ras al-Khaimah Charity Association, which support 1,467 local students in schools and universities; the Telecommunications Regulation Authority, TRA, which provided academic grants to around 60 students of the American University, and the Public Services Authorities in Ras al-Khaimah, which provides free transport services to 650 students of the Higher Colleges of Technology, HCT.

Dr. Mohammed Abdulatif Khalifa, Director-General of the Sheikh Saqr Government Excellence Programme, which supports the award, said that the award's current edition saw 363 nominations, an increase of 3 percent compared to the previous edition.

The "Students Excellence Category" reached 244 nominations, an 8 percent increase compared to the previous edition. The award's current edition also saw the creation of 11 new categories, including the "School Safety Officer" category while the number of schools, institutions and nurseries supporting education reached 73 entities, an increase of 11.

Dr. Khalifa added that the award's current edition witnessed an increase in its participation and the number of male education specialists, students, researchers, working groups and institutions that won awards increased to 37.5 percent of the total number of winners while the number of winners from the southern regions of Ras al-Khaimah reached eight, or 26.7 percent of the total number.
