Uson reveals plan to contest election

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Resigned communications assistant secretary Mocha Uson has confirmed that she would seek an elected position in the 2019 midterm polls.
Uson made the confirmation in a chance interview at the Senate. She said she wanted to 'give voice to the ordinary and underprivileged people, and complained of being a victim of 'fake news.
'How about the ordinary people who are being defiled? Uson asked. She said the brickbats she was getting from critics were politically motivated because she was eyeing an elected post.
'So, I take it as a challenge to serve as the voice of ordinary Filipinos. That's why, yes, I'll run for public office, she said.
However, she declined to indicate which elected position she intended to seek in next year's polls. 'I still don't know but I'm sure of running, she said.
Sen. Aquilino 'Koko Pimentel 3rd, president of the ruling Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) declined to respond to questions on whether Uson would be part of the ruling party's senatorial line-up.
'She is not a member of the party, Pimentel said.
Uson resigned from her post, Malacanang said on Monday, following a report online that President Rodrigo Duterte gave the controversial official the boot.
Uson's immediate superior, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar denied that the former was fired by Duterte.
'I saw her resignation letter. She resigned, Andanar told Manila Times in a text message.
Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence 'Bong Go also denied that Duterte fired Uson.
'Not true, Go told Times in a separate text message.
The Palace officials made the statement after a news report quoted an unnamed source who said Duterte had decided to dismiss Uson from service, allegedly for being 'abusive and arrogant.
Uson, in her radio programme on Monday, branded the report as 'fake news and threatened to file a case against Inquirer.net, which posted the story online.
'Can I file a case against the Inquirer? Because there's no truth to it, Inquirer. You're saying, it's according to a source? Wow, she said.
