Oman- SQU, Starcare team up for nurse training, research

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The College of Nursing at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and Starcare Hospital Muscat signed an agreement on Tuesday marking the beginning of collaborations in the areas of nurse training and research.

The agreement was signed under the patronage of H H Sayyida Dr Muna bint Fahad al Said, assistant vice chancellor for International Relations at SQU.

Dr Huda al Noumani, assistant dean of Training and Community Services, College of Nursing, SQU, said, 'Developing an active community nursing programme is one of the aims of this agreement. Community nurses in developed nations are now playing a key role in preventing avoidable hospital admissions by taking care of people where they live. A lot can be done if both the private and public sectors work together to achieve this.'

Dr Sadik Kodakat, founder and chairman, Starcare Hospital Group, said, 'Good nursing is at the core of what we do in the field of healthcare. Naturally, developing good nursing training system is vital for maintaining high quality hospitals, medical centres and even community care programmes.

'We are pleased to be chosen as the private hospital partner for SQU College of Nursing. The aim is to pool together resources from both sides and develop better and more effective training, research and quality assurance systems.

'Since Starcare has been pioneering various quality systems and accreditations in Oman, this will be a natural extension of what we do routinely. Having an environment of training, assessing, auditing and researching will keep our professionals at the cutting edge of knowledge, which I am sure will invariably help our patients and our clinical results.'

According to Dr Askar Kukkadi, senior consultant paediatrician and managing director, Starcare Oman, both Starcare and SQU College of Nursing will benefit through this collaboration significantly, bringing positive impact to the community. 'Together, we look forward to setting standards and being an example to all sectors by working together to achieve more.

'Public-private partnerships in various levels will be a welcome change in the future of healthcare in Oman.'
