Turkmen president signs pardon decree

On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence (Sept. 27), Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree pardoning a number of convicts, the Altyn Asyr TV channel reported Sept. 25.

Berdimuhamedov instructed the relevant agencies to take all measures to ensure that the pardoned in the near future be released from prisons and return to their homes and families, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

'We create all conditions for people who repent of their misdeeds, so that they can honestly work to atone for their guilt and actively participate in ensuring the prosperity of the country,' the Turkmen president said.

He also instructed to ensure the employment of those pardoned.
