DOHA: Italy is keen on further bolstering ties with Qatar in the field of culture and the arts through a robust cultural programme as well as collaboration with different Qatari cultural entities.
'Here in Doha, the Embassy of Italy is implementing this year an intense cultural programme and we are ready to do more together with Qatari cultural institutions in the fields of arts, music, museums and cultural heritage protection, and to embrace the increased demand of Italian cultural presence in Qatar, said Italian Ambassador Pasquale Salzano.
Salzano while addressing the opening of a talk dubbed 'Movie set-design speaks Italian held at on Sunday at Bin Jelmood House at Msheireb Museums.
The Ambassador underscored the indispendable role Italian movie set design plays in film production which contributes in a big way to the success Italian cinema enjoys both in domestic and international scene.
He stressed that Italian cinema is renowned and appreciated world over citing some of the most internationally renowned actors and filmmakers Italy has gifted the world through the years.
'At the Academy Awards, Italy is the country that has won most Oscars in the foreign language film category and was awarded a great number of Oscars in many other crucial categories, Salzano said.
Among the main contributions of Italy in the world of cinema is the Venice International Film Festival, considered one of the biggest events to promote international cinema both as art and entertainment and as industry.
'The famous studios of Cinecittà in Rome are home to the most experienced set-designers and builders in the world, talented artisans that have passed their skills and secrets down through several generations, he added.
The event on Sunday featured Italian movie set designers Alida Cappellini and Giovanni Licheri who explained the crucial role played by set designers such as the choice of beautiful locations, of magnificent architecture and original pieces of design, the attention to furniture, details and style, which, Salzano said, made the 'Made in Italy cinema unique in the world.
The talk was part of 'Fare Cinema (Making Films) dedicated to the Italian film-making industry, an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in more than 100 capitals around the world including Doha.
'Italy has a great tradition of quality cinema and its contemporary film production is supported as an integral part of the promotion of 'Brand Italy to enhance a positive image of our Country all over the world. 'Fare Cinema is part of the integrated promotion plan of the 'Italian Way of Life, which features cinema as a priority, said Salzano.
