Geneva: The State of Qatar called on the International Commission of Inquiry to continue its investigations into the crimes and grave violations committed by Israeli forces against Palestinian demonstrators and to take all necessary measures to ensure accountability and hold to account all those responsible.

This came in a speech delivered by Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, at the current 39th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council within the framework of the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on violations of international law in the context of large-scale civilian protests in the Occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.

Ambassador Al Mansouri called on the international community to act to end the illegal siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, to open the crossings immediately and permanently to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid, to guarantee the freedom of movement of people and commercial goods, and to proceed with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Strip.

The Ambassador said that all the reports issued by the UN organisations and committees confirm the fact that repeated military attacks and the imposition of an unjust blockade on the Gaza Strip are among the main reasons that have led to the deterioration of the humanitarian and living conditions of more than 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and the disruption of development and reconstruction efforts.

Al Mansouri said that the Palestinians, in protest against these tragic circumstances, took part in peaceful protests demanding the right to return to their land, from which they were forcibly expelled decades ago. He pointed out that the Israeli security forces resorted unjustly and unlawfully to the deliberate and indiscriminate use of firearms against the Palestinian protesters, resulting in the death and injury of many of them. 'This constitutes a flagrant violation of the relevant international laws and the Fourth Geneva Convention and constitutes war crime that must not go unpunished, he said.

The Ambassador expressed thanks to the members of the International Commission of Inquiry for the oral update they presented today and called on all concerned parties, in particular the Israeli entity, the occupying Power, to cooperate with them and allow them access in order to enable them to carry out their mandate in the best possible manner.
