(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Four Daesh or Islamic State militants were killed in a suspected US drone strike on their hideout in Haska Mena district of eastern Nangarhar province, a military official said on Thursday.
The drone fired missiles at a Daesh hideout in Gurgorai area of the district last night, said 201 Selab Military Corps spokesman Maj. Mohammad Haroon Yousafzai.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that a leader was among four Daesh militants killed in the strike which destroyed their weapons and the hideout.
Maj. Yousafzai also said the second phase of joint operations had been launched in Batikot district to pave the ground of elections.
He said the first phase of the offensive was concluded a month back and the second round was launched a few days back.
He said so far five big villages had been cleared of the presence of Taliban militants. He said a number of Taliban rebels surrendered to the security forces during the operations.
Taliban and Daesh militants who operate in the province have not commented about the operations in Batikot and the drone strike in Haska Mena districts.
