(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday said Afghanistan would not become a battleground for proxy war, stressing any attempts taking place in the regard should be stopped.
A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said the president met with a number of influential figures, Ulema, elders and youths in his office on Tuesday evening.
Dr. Mohammad Asif Hekmat, talked on behalf of Ulema and Quat Ali Fikrat talked on behalf of youths and explained their problems and suggestions regarding security, job creation, unemployment, poverty, health and social life in the meeting.
President Ghani welcomed the participants of the meeting and shared his condolences regarding the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H).
€œImam Hussain written a line of justice against oppressions,€ he said, adding unity among the Afghan people was solid and attacks on Shias was unacceptable and an effective step should be taken against such acts of terrorists.
€œAfghanistan would not turn to the battleground of proxy war for any country that which would damage our national unity, such attempts taking place should be stopped, any Afghan working in a third country has committed crime according to Afghanistna penal code,€ Ghani added.
The president said, €œAfghans are the target of the ongoing war which aims at weakening the Afghans security and defense forces, a nonpolitical consensus for the support of our forces needs to create,€
Afghan security and defense forces are capable of defending their country and the enemy is unable to achieve their goals of taking control of some provinces of the country, he said. Daesh or so called Islamic State (IS) insurgents also faced defeat in Nangarhar province.
€œWe should also defeat Daesh in ideology and both Shia and Sunni Ulema have consensus over this issue,€ he added.
President Ghani thanked the public cooperation with security forces and stressed on further collaboration.
