ABU DHABI, 19th September, 2018 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has directed the provision of school uniforms to Yemeni students in the country's liberated governorates.
His directive aims to strengthen the UAE's efforts to support the education system in Yemen and provide for the overall needs of the country.
Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, said that the ERC has begun implementing the directives of Sheikh Hamdan and is currently providing school uniforms to around 70,000 students of various grades, through its relief teams in several Yemeni governorates.
Al Falahi stated that these directives reflect Sheikh Hamdan's support for education in Yemen, as well as his keenness to provide a suitable environment for students to pursue their education, despite the country's dire conditions.
He explained that the education sector in Yemen is witnessing many initiatives launched by the ERC to improve the lives of the Yemeni people and enable them to overcome their current conditions while noting that the ERC's plans include restoring the basic infrastructure of schools and providing for the various needs of students.
Al Falahi also stressed that the initiative will reinforce the efforts of relevant educational authorities in Yemen, especially the Ministry of Education, to continue the education process for Yemeni students.
The Yemeni Ministry of Education recently announced its suspension of the compulsory use of school uniforms in all schools, due to the dire conditions faced by the Yemeni people.
