(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Aboul-Gheit has ripped into the US schemes to terminate the Palestinian cause and infringe upon Palestinian people rights.
The Palestinian cause is facing a fierce onslaught which is still unfolding, the league's chief said on Tuesday during the 150th session of Arab League foreign ministers council held in Cairo.
The US has taken "unprecedented" measures to consolidate the occupation status quo, he said, referring to the US recent decision to move its embassy in Israel to the occupied East Jerusalem and to end funding to the UN Palestinian refugee organization (UNRWA).
If issues like the status of the occupied Jerusalem and the Palestinian refugees are not left for negotiations, what else will remain of the Palestinian cause-related issues, he wondered.
Aboul-Gheit said that the US' recognition of Jerusalem as a capital of the occupation state (Israel) is a defiance of the international will.
He noted that the UN is giving up the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees' (UNRWA), indicating that the aim of this is to shed doubts about the legitimacy of the agency.
He reiterated the Arab stance that the refugee issue should be resolved as per the relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative adopted by the Arab summit in 2002.
Shutting down the Palestine Liberation Organization's office in Washington will not undermine Palestinians' determination to get their rights, he stressed. Meanwhile, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyadh Al-Malki affirmed that the Palestinian cause is facing the ugliest and the most dangerous plot to annihilate the cause and keep it away from both regional and international attention.
Addressing the session, the Palestinian official said that the plot represents a "political massacre" committed deliberately by US President Donald Trump against legitimate and fair rights of Palestinian people.
He stated that the US decision on Jerusalem, refugees, UNRWA and settlement are meant to supporting the Israeli occupation authority.
He considered such moves as an "unprecedented" interference into affairs of Palestinian people, and Muslim and Arab nations.
Al-Malki urged Arab countries to continue their support to UNRWA so as to overcome its financial crisis. (pick up previous) msh.as.hm
