Jordan initiates SMEs program to boost exports

(MENAFN) Jordan announced the introduction of a new program aimed at the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the Kingdom, in an attempt to expand exports.

The "Enhancing Industrial SMEs for Export" program was confirmed to have been inaugurated on Sunday by Tareq Hamouri, Jordan's Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply.

The initiative was explained to be targeting the improvement of SMEs abilities to develop their products as well as facilitate their exports.

The minister stressed that the Kingdom has been struggling with weak production structure, budget deficit, soaring internal and external debts, along with unemployment and poverty.

Hamouri added "this requires policy-makers to reinforce the role of local and foreign investment and to look for new markets for Jordanian products, and to diversify the sources of income."
