DOHA: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met yesterday morning with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Presidential residence Bellevue Palace in Berlin.
They reviewed the strategic bilateral relations and the means to enhance them in all fields, particularly the political and economic ones. The President expressed his delight at holding the Qatar Germany Business and Investment Forum in Berlin, expressing hope that the event can deepen investment ties and increase trade volume in line with the aspirations of the two peoples.
H H the Amir and the President exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, and stressed in that regard on the importance of having stability in the region. The meeting was attended by a number of Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir. On the German side, it was attended by a number of their excellencies members of the cabinet.
H H the Amir also met with Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the friendly Federal Republic of Germany, and the accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of the Qatar Germany Business and Investment Forum in Berlin.
During the meeting, H H the Amir and the German Chancellor reviewed ways to boost and consolidate the close strategic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the political, cultural and economic fields.
In this context, the German Chancellor thanked H H the Amir for the confidence of the State of Qatar in the German economy. The two sides also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, particularly the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Syria, Libya and Palestine.
H H the Amir and the Chancellor expressed regret that some countries have cut their aid to UNRWA, which would negatively affect millions of refugees, while stressing their countries' continued support for humanitarian issues.
Regarding Syria, they warned of a humanitarian catastrophe in the event of renewed attacks on Idlib. They also stressed the importance of resolving the Gulf crisis through dialogue for the stability of the region and the adoption of political ways to resolve all differences.
H H the Amir also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heiko Maas, on the sidelines of the Qatar Germany Business and Investment Forum in Berlin. During the meeting, they reviewed the strategic relations between the two friendly countries and prospects for developing them further in various fields. The German Minister thanked H H the Amir for holding the Forum in Berlin this year, and the consequent investments that reflect the strength of economic cooperation between the two countries. Discussions also dealt with the latest developments on the regional and international arenas, particularly the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Palestine and Syria. H H the Amir also met the German Minister of Economy and Energy Peter Altmaier, on the sidelines of the Qatar Germany Business and Investment Forum in Berlin.
During the meeting, they reviewed areas of cooperation and means of promoting and developing them, especially in the field of energy, economy and investment.
H H the Amir also met with Former Foreign Minister of the friendly of Federal Republic of Germany Sigmar Gabriel, on the sidelines of the Qatar Germany Business and Investment Forum in Berlin.
H H the Amir attended a luncheon held for businessmen, heads of companies and senior officials from the economic, investment and trade fields in Germany, on the occasion of Qatar Germany Business and Investment Forum.
H H the Amir left Berlin yesterday evening, after a three-day working visit to the friendly Federal Republic of Germany.
H H the Amir sent two cables to President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in which His Highness expressed his deep thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying delegation during the visit, which provided the opportunity to meet and exchange views on issues of mutual interest, and to discuss ways to boost the friendly relations and cooperation in various fields for the benefit of the two countries' peoples.
