Professor allegedly dragged out of home, thrashed, for criticizing Vajpayee

An assistant professor at Bihar's Motihari Central University was dragged out of his home and thrashed brutally on Friday for sharing a Facebook post which criticized the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The victim, Sanjay Kumar, was admitted to Patna's AIIMS as he suffered serious injuries.

12 people have been booked by the police.

Attackers reportedly attempted to burn Kumar alive
The attack


Sanjay Kumar alleged that he was dragged from his house on third-floor, and beaten. The attackers reportedly tried to burn him alive, as he shared that Facebook post.

But, he said he could have been beaten for protesting the decisions of Vice-Chancellor in the past.

"I also received a threat call from attackers, who warned me to not protest against the V-C," Kumar alleged.

What happened


Notably, Kumar and other professors had earlier staged a protest against reservation and faculty appointment in the University.

In a video of the incident, Kumar can be seen trying to get the attackers off, and them holding and beating him. A voice can be heard saying if he wanted to become another Kanhaiya Kumar.

The victim alleged an attacker called him 'terrorist'.

The 12 accused were booked under IPC Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 147 & 148 rioting, 149 (unlawful assembly), 365 (kidnapping with intention of confinement) 448 (tresspass), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).

In a tweet, Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav questioned Nitish Kumar's administration. "What's this going on Mr CM?" he wrote.
