Turkey, France discuss US sanctions on Ankara

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Aug 17 (KUNA) -- Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak and French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire on Friday discussed ways to act against the economic sanctions imposed by the US on Turkey.
In a phone conversation, the two ministers agreed to promote the bilateral economic cooperation, Turkey's Anadolu Agency (AA) reported, citing a statement by the Turkish Treasury and Finance Ministry.
Albayrak and Le Maire also agreed that delegations from both countries would meet in Paris on August 27.
Albayrak thanked Le Maire and French President Emmanuel Macron for their support to Turkey, according to the statement.
Macron and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed by phone yesterday the row between Ankara and Washington as well as the situation in Syria.
The relations between Turkey and the US have soured after the US Department of Treasury imposed sanctions earlier this month on Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu and Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul, and doubled the tariffs on the aluminum and steel imports from Turkey to 20 percent and 50 percent, respectively.
