Oman- Forum discusses sustainability and future of Artificial Intelligence


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- To discuss the new emerging artificial intelligence technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR), the Information Technology Authority (ITA), organised the 4.0 Digital Trends Forum on Monday.

It was held at the office of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation in Salalah under the patronage of H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, and chairman of the ITA's Board of Directors.

Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA and a number of IT professionals, specialists and academics were also present at the event. Ruzaiqi said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is the backbone of the 4th Industrial Revolution. It is estimated that by 2035, AI will double the annual economic growth rate of countries which adopt its technologies.

'Through this forum, we aimed to shed light on the latest trends in AI applications and its implications on addressing many of the issues and challenges facing humanity. In addition, the forum was an opportunity to encourage IT specialists, entrepreneurs and organisations towards research and innovation in AI.'

Innovations and digital transformation based on the 4th Industrial Revolution technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, Internet of Things, virtual reality and the ability to employ these technologies are the key elements on which the countries' ability to achieve growth, progress and prosperity will depend, he said.

'We see real economic returns from employing the 4th Industrial Revolution's technologies which ultimately will impact economic sectors, government and private organisations. For example, it is expected that the 4IR technologies will add approximately US$3.7tn worldwide in 2025 as an additional economic value through increased productivity. ITA also predicts that the saving from the implementation of 4IR projects in eGovernment transformation will be equivalent to RO18mn within four years,' he added.

The event sessions and papers were delivered by prominent international and local speakers. Dr Aisha Khan, co-founder and CEO of ADDO discussed the automation and future of work with AI.

Through her paper she stated, 'AI is so critical to the hybrid age that it is becoming a strategy at the national level for many countries.'
