Oman- Suspension of flight operations at Kochi airport hits travellers from the sultanate

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The suspension of flight operations at Kochi airport in the southern Indian state of Kerala till Saturday due to continuous rain has left hundreds of travellers from Oman in a fix. Airlines have asked travellers to reroute their journeys or opt for a refund.

As per information on the Oman Airports website, Oman Air's (WY 223) and Air India Express' (IX 442) flights to Kochi were cancelled on Wednesday morning.

An official with Air India said that the airline is giving travellers two options to choose from. 'They can either get a refund. Or, take the flight to Thiruvananthapuram or Calicut and from there travel to Kochi by some other means of transport.'

India's private carrier Jet Airways too is offering a similar deal to travellers. 'We have offered travellers a refund or they can travel till Thiruvananthapuram or Coimbatore and then continue onward to Kochi,' a Jet Airways official said.

Manohar M, a resident of Muscat who has been affected by the suspension of flights to Kochi said, 'Since airfares are too high I rescheduled my travel plans. So, I will be taking a flight to Bengaluru via Abu Dhabi. I will plan my onward journey to Kochi depending upon the weather situation.'

Anitha C Varghese, another resident of Muscat said that her husband is stuck in Kochi due to the cancellation of Air India flight on Wednesday. 'The airline has rescheduled his flight for Friday but the airport is closed till Saturday. He is unsure of what to do.'

The Jet Airways official said that there is no point in going to Thiruvananthapuram too as roads there are also flooded and travellers could get stranded. 'So what some travellers are doing is to go to New Delhi or Mumbai and try to reach Kochi from there.'

Elsy Jobi, a resident of Muscat, said that her mother-in-law was supposed to reach on Wednesday but couldn't board the Air India flight from Kochi due to the flight cancellation. 'The airline has promised a refund but the problem is her visa expires on August 20.'
