Police kill six alleged militants in an exchange of fire

Police forces announced on Monday that six alleged militants were killed in an exchange of fire in the Sixth of October city, after investigations pointed out that they were planning to target Christians worshiping places, as well as police and army personnel.

A statement by the Ministry of Interior said that the dead militants wanted to 'spoil the joy of the civilians' which is caused by the 'achievements in the economic field.'

The statement did not specify which militant group the suspects belonged to nor did it identify them.

On Sunday, police forces announced killing 12 alleged militants in a shootout in Al-Arish, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior on Sunday.

Also, on the same day, the ministry announced that it arrested alleged perpetrators suspected to be involved in the suicide bombing, which took place on Saturday meters away from the Saint Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in Shoubra neighbourhood, leading to the death of one person, according to the Ministry of Health.

On Monday, the prosecution referred the case of the suicide bombing to the State Security Prosecution, in order for it to complete the investigations.
