36 ANA soldiers, 8 ALP personnel killed in Baghlan battle


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Forty-four security personnel have been killed in clashes with Taliban militants in the Baghlan-i-Markazi district of northern Baghlan province, an official said on Wednesday.

Col. Zabihullah Ghorzang, Public Order battalion commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News the dead included 36 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and eight Afghan Local Police personnel.

He said the insurgents stormed ALP and ANA check-posts late on Tuesday night. The commander gave no further details.

Meanwhile, eyewitness Roohullah Safi said the Taliban captured a check-post before killing six security personnel and seizing two Humvees, weapons and ammunition.

On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid the fighters killed 31 ANA soldiers and ALP personnel and captured two check-posts along with some ammunition in the nighttime assault.
