Oman Cancer Association to conduct breast cancer awareness in six governorates from Sept 16


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The National Breast Cancer Awareness and Examination Programme, organised by the Oman Cancer Association (OCA) will begin on September 16 and tour six governorates in the sultanate.

The programme will be conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Health, represented by the Department of Woman and Child Health and the National Oncology Centre.

This was announced at a press conference held by OCA at its headquarters on Sunday.

Dr Wahid bin Ali al Kharusi, president of OCA, said that the programme comes in partnership with Mazoon Pharmacy and Roche.

He added that the programme aims to create awareness in society regarding the tools that can be used to prevent and control cancer. It will also stress the importance of frequent and systematic examination, which provides an opportunity for early diagnosis and treatment. The campaign will start in the Governorate of Muscat and then move to Dhofar and other governorates. It will target women and students from grade ten and older.

The programme will be conducted by trained nurses from the governorates of the sultanate and with the participation of doctors from the National Oncology Centre, Dr Kharusi said, adding that clinical breast examinations will be conducted and women will be taught how to conduct self- examination which is an important tool.

Dr Kharusi also informed that the mammography unit of the OCA will be part of the programme and free X-rays will be done for women between 40 and 60 years.
