'Takht': Who plays what in KJo's biggest historical drama?
12 Aug 2018

'Takht' is Karan Johar's most ambitious project yet. The director himself admitted that it would be as mammoth as 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', but set in the Mughal era.

The film will have all the complexities of court politics, passions, and betrayals.

Slated to release in 2020, the film has an epic star cast. Here, we tell you who plays what in the movie.

In the spotlight: Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal
Brothers

If reports are to believed, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal are the two pillars of the movie.

Ranveer will play Dara Shikoh, Shah Jahan's eldest son and successor to the throne. Vicky will play the bloodthirsty Aurangzeb who eventually became the next ruler.

Moreover, Alia Bhatt will romance Ranveer on screen as Nadira Banu, Dara Shikoh's wife.

Janhvi and Bhumi have equally promising characters
Janhvi & Bhumi

'Takht' has a stellar cast that is a mix of both new and veteran faces.

Janhvi Kapoor, who made her debut with 'Dhadak', will play the role of Hira Bai, a slave girl for whom Aurungzeb fell for.

Bhumi Pednekar, whose recent role in 'Lust Stories' was remarkable will play Aurungzeb's wife, Dilras Banu Begum.

The real star powers in the movie
Veterans

KJo's movies are incomplete without a few veterans. In this movie, Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan have pivotal roles.

Kareena plays Jahanara Begum Sahib, eldest daughter of Shah Jahan and sister of Dara and Aurangzeb. She last worked with Karan in 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'.

Anil will be seen playing the role of none other than Shah Jahan.

A film is ultimately a story and KJo knows it
Scriptwriters

In a pretty graceful move, KJo has drawn special attention to the writers of 'Takht'.

Having been in the industry for twenty years, Karan knows that the films are primarily hinged on stories, or at least should be.

Writers Sumit Roy and Hussain Haidry were credited by Karan for their story.

In a megalomaniac industry, it is really hard to find people like him.
