Algeria: key militant turns himself in to military authorities

(MENAFN) Algeria's Defense Ministry declared a leading official of a militia group in the African Sahel region to have turned himself in to military authorities.

Abzou Aissa, known as Soltane Oueld Badi, laid down his arms to military authorities in the southern province of Tamanrasset close to the border with Mali and Niger, the defense ministry explained in a statement.

The terrorist was confirmed to have had in his possession a Kalashnikov submachine gun along with 250 bullets of several types of calibers.

The terrorist "used to be among the senior officials of terrorist organizations in the Sahel region," the statement noted.

This victorious operation verified "the positive results obtained by counterterrorism troops," it added.
