(MENAFN - Gulf Times) Al Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira said his team's QNB Stars League match against Al Arabi today will not be a cakewalk.
'There is a big difference between the derby and other matches. Derby matches always make the players eager to win. We had been the best in the last two seasons in our Qatar Derby matches against Al Arabi in terms of score, level and performance, the Portuguese national said.
'The two teams are renewing the rivalry in the new season. Al Arabi have improved significantly over the last season, so the derby will be stronger and better this time.
'Preparations were good despite the hot weather and humidity. We have been working since 12th July to get the players ready for the new season. We are seeking titles and we take it step by step in the QNB Stars League, said Ferreira.
Al Sadd player Yasser Abubakr said: 'We are all geared up to face Al Arabi. Matches between Al Sadd and Al Arabi are special in terms of huge spectator turnout and we must stay all focused to keep winning matches.
Meanwhile, Al Kharaitiyat coach Nassif al-Bayawi said his team are eager to bounce back from the 6-0 thrashing they received against Al Sadd last week when they take on Al Shahania.
'Whatever the result of our last match (lost to Al Sadd 0-6), we are motivating our players as we bank on our positives.
'Conceding six goals against Al Sadd is not a big deal. We had a great chance to score in the very first minute of the match. The penalty did not help our cause either. We mostly played well, but lost concentration at times.
'Some of our players have recovered from their injuries and I do hope they are all ready for the match against Al Shahania which will not be easy for us.
'Maybe, we lose points in big matches and can look to gain many against not-so-tough opponents. Al Shahania have taken in many new players, but my team is determined to win.
'Our ambition is realistic - stay in the top flight. Rest all will be a bonus for us. I cannot accept if we win only one or two games in a league competition.
