Oman's Mashaykhi clinches three medals at CPISRA World Games


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's Mohammed al Mashaykhi stole the limelight at the 2018 CPISRA World Games, currently under way in Sant Cugat, Spain.

The Omani clinched three medals including a gold and two silver at the Games over the past three days.

Organised by the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA), the Omani began his campaign on a golden note as he won the top honours in the shot put F32 (2kg) category. He threw a distance of 10.14m, the best shot coming off his sixth and final attempt.

The success story continuedon Fridaywhen he won silver in the F32 (1kg) discus event with a throw of 14.53m to finish behind Scotland's Graham Condie, who had a best attempt of 14.73.

And his medal hat-trick was achieved on Saturday when Mashaykhi won his second silver in the club throw men's F32 event with a throw of 30.54m.

The gold was won by Maciej Sochal of Poland with a distance of 32.27m. Mashaykhi's attempt of 30.54 was a new Asian record.

The 27 year old athlete had last year won Oman's first medal at the World Para Athletics Championship in London, UK in July.

During his triumph to the silver in London, he had shattered the world record of 10.39m only to be broken by Algeria Lahouari Bahlaz at the same event.

Mashaykhi was accompanied by his coach Sonia Mustapha of Tunisia and Mansoor al Touqi, president of the Oman Paralympic Committee.

Sonia lauded Mashaykhi's achievements and said that he is a 'talented athlete and has displayed lot of eagerness to achieve excellence'.

Touqi commended the performance and said, 'It is a matter of pride for Mashaykhi and the whole of sultanate. To win three medals on three successive days including a gold is a terrific feat and we are all delighted on his achievement.'
