Three terrorists arrested in Salt raid

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - One police officer was killed and several others, including civilians, were injured in a raid on a building in Salt on Saturday night in connection to the terrorist attack on a gendarmerie vehicle a day earlier in Fuheis, the government said.

Meanwhile, three suspects were arrested in the raid that also resulted in the suspects reportedly detonating the building they have barricaded themselves in, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Jumana Ghunaimat said.

'Following intense and delicate investigations, a special force decided to raid a building in Salt governorate that was believed to be occupied by the suspects,' Ghunaimat told The Jordan Times.

The suspects reportedly refused to surrender and instead started shooting at the forces that surrounded their building, according to Ghunaimat.

'The suspects and the special police force engaged in heavy fire and they eventually detonated the building and most of it collapsed. The gun exchange resulted in the death of a police officer,' Ghunaimat said.

The government spokesperson added that the security operation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, officials at Al Salt Government Hospital said dozens of people were rushed to the hospital by ambulances suffering from various injuries.

'We received dozens of cases and everyone at the hospital is heavily engaged in rescuing people and performing operations,' a source at the hospital told The Jordan Times.
