Kuwait- GAFC mulls humanitarian situation in Yemen


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- The GCC Relief and Humanitarian Aid Coordination Office (GAFC) for Yemen convened its 25th meeting here on Thursday to discuss the latest developments of the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
The Kuwaiti delegation to the meeting reviewed the relief efforts made by Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), Kuwait Society for Relief (KSR), Patients Helping Fund (PHF) and other Kuwaiti charities active in Yemen over the last fund.
The delegation briefed the conferees on the lifeline provided by Kuwait to the victims of the Mekunu and Sagar cyclones in Socotra archipelago in the Arabian Sea.
They also reviewed the assistance offered by Kuwaiti fund-raising agencies to the evacuees from Hudaydah and Aden governorates as well as the plans for future relief projects.
The meeting, chaired by representative of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat and Acting Chair of the GCC Mission in Yemen Sarhan Al-Meneikher, denounced the human rights abuses committed by the Houthi rebels in Hudaydah and other parts of Yemen.
Al-Meneikher condemned the persistence of the Houthi rebels in hampering the relief efforts, including the polio vaccination campaigns in, and medical supplies to, Al-Jawf, Hudaydah and Ibb governorates.
Yemen's Deputy Minister of Local Administration Abdulsalam Ba-Aboud commented the humanitarian aid offered by the GCC countries to the residents of Hudaydah as well as the airdrops to the besieged people in several parts of Yemen.
Kuwait delegation to the meeting includes KRCS Deputy Chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi, KRCS Director General Abdulrahman Al-Aon, and head of the relief committee of KSR Jamal Al-Nouri, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Faisal Al-Khomsan and Mohammad Al-Khalifa. (end) mdm.gb
