Qatar to host 2020 Arab table tennis championship


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The General Assembly of the Arab Table Tennis Federation unanimously approved the 28th edition of the Arab Championship for teams to be held in Qatar in March 2020.
The General Assembly meeting was held in Cairo yesterday on the sidelines of the Arab Championship under the chairmanship of Khalil al-Mohannadi, Chairman of the Qatar and Arab Table Tennis Federations, with representatives of 16 countries in attendance.
The meeting took several important decisions that support the future of the game in the Arab world.
On the other hand, Qatar players and teams opened their campaigns in the doubles and singles events at the 2018 Championship on a high on Saturday.
Qatar's Ahmed Khalil thrashed his Iraqi opponent Ahmed Abdulhosein 3-0 in the singles event in group B.
Likewise Qatar's duo Yousef Ali Hossein and Abdulaziz al-Hagagi recorded an easy 3-0 victory over Sudanese counterparts Al Tayab Mustafa and Hatim Taha to book place in the last four stage.
In Youth category, Qatar's duo Mohamed Abdulwahab and Abdurrahman al-Nagar continued their impressive performance, with Abdulwahab defeating Sudanese rival Mohamed Hossein 3-0, and teammate al-Nagar outclassing Al Saied Murtada of Bahrain 3-0.
Al-Hagagi defeated Ahmed Salem of Mauritania 3-0, while Qatar's girls team sparkled where Aya Magdi and her teammate, Shahad Abdulhady al-Maki posted victories.
The prestigious event brought together a number of Arab nations including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Palestine, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Lebanon and Egypt across various categories.
Around 386 players are competing in five different categories, including Under-21, Under-18 and Under-15.
