Cairo: The General Assembly of the Arab Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) yesterday unanimously approved Qatar as hosts for the 28th edition of Arab Championship for Teams, which will be held in March 2020.
The development came during a meeting of the Ordinary General Assembly which was held in Cairo, on the sidelines of the Arab Championship being hosted by the Egyptian capital under the chairmanship of Khalil Mohannadi, Chairman of the Qatar and Arab Table Tennis Federations.
A total of 16 countries are taking part in the event.
The meeting also took several important decisions that support the future of the game in the Arab world in general, and in the civil associations in particular.
On other hand, Qatar teams started doubles and singles events at the Arab Table Tennis Championship 2018 with high performance in Cairo on Saturday.
Qatar's Ahmed Khalil thrashed his Iraqi opponent Ahmed Abdulhosein 3-0 in single event in group B.
Likewise Qatar's duo Yousef Ali Hossein and Abdulaziz Al Hagagi recorded an easy 3-0 victory over Sudanese counterparts Al Tayab Mustafa and Hatim Taha to book place in the last four stage.
In Youth class, Qatar's duo Mohammed Abdulwahab and Abdurrahman Al Nagar continued their impressive performance, Abdulwahab confidently defeated Sudanese rival Mohammed Hossein 3-0, while his team-mate Al Nagar outclassed Al Saied Murtada of Bahrain 3-0.
Qatar's Abdul-Aziz Al Hagagi defeated Ahmed Salem of Mauritania 3-0, while Qatar's girls team sparkled where Aya Magdi defeated Algeria champion 3-0 and her teammate, Shahad Abdulhady Al Maki outclassed Lebanese opponent Fatima Al Dagdoogi 3-1.
The prestigious event is bringing together a number of Arab nations including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Palestine, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Lebanon hosts Egypt who are competing in different categories.
Around 386 players in five categories including Under-21, Under-18 and Under-15 years are taking part in the competition.
