Canadian disciplinary tariffs on US products take effect

(MENAFN) Canada's countermeasures against the Trump administration's steel and aluminum levies have come into effect.

The country has imposed a 25 percent tariff on various US metals products, in addition to a 10 percent imposed on more than 250 other US products such as orange juice and whisky.

Canada-US trade tensions are high amidst the metals levies and North American Free Trade Agreement talks.

The equivalent retaliation duties are estimated to reach 9.5 billion pounds, representing the 2017 value of Canadian metals exports affected by the US measures.
